Eagles claw the Vulcans, 5-1

KEA`AU—Concordia's Connor Gordon had two goals and two assists to help his Eagles cruise past host Hawai`i Hilo on Saturday night under the lights at Paiea Stadium, 5-1.

The victory moved the No. 25 nationally ranked Eagles (Hero Sports) to 5-2 in the Pacific West Conference, and they are 6-4-2 overall. The Vulcans are 0-7-1 in the PacWest and 1-10-1 on the year.

Eric Torres got the scoring started pretty early for the Eagles (13 minutes in) when he took a pass from Andrew Almeida and beat Vulcans goalkeeper Cassidy Dixon, who came out of the box. Concordia added another goal ten minutes later when Isaac Gettis found the net from the left side after a cross from Gordon.

The Eagles essentially salted the match away with 13 minutes to go in the half when Ether Bustos punched it in after a wild scramble in the box, with Gordon again getting the assist. With just over three minutes left before intermission, Gordon scored to make it 4-0.

Gordon added another via penalty kick just five minutes into the second half.

The Vulcans got on the board for the first time in four matches with 20 minutes left.  Jake Sagami popped a shot over the top of the Concordia defense and keeper to make it a 5-1 count. It was Sagami's team-leading third goal of the season.

Concordia had 13 shots on the night, six on goal. The Vulcans had eight shots, five of them on goal. The Eagles had six corner kicks to UHH's two.

The Vulcans head out on the road for one match, this Thursday at BYU-Hawaii, and then return home next Saturday to take on Azusa Pacific (Oct. 22) at 4:30 p.m.
