Seasiders blank Vulcans, 2-0

LAIE--It was the last-ever match-up in men's soccer between BYU-Hawaii and Hawai`i Hilo, and in the final record books it will be recorded as the last laugh going to the Seasiders.

BYU-Hawaii scored one goal in each half to defeat visiting UHH 2-0 on Thursday afternoon at the BYUH Soccer Field. The victory evened the Seasiders' overall record at 5-5-2 and they are now 4-4-1 in the Pacific West Conference. The Vulcans are now 1-11-1 in 2016 and they fell to 0-8-1 in conference action.

The Seasiders scored once in each half to secure the win. Jacob McRae tallied his ninth goal of the year at 28:05 to put the home team on the board first. He took a the rebound off a shot from Peter Puertas (who got the assist) and flicked it back in the goal past Vulcan keeper Joshua Jasper.

BYUH scored one more time with just over 15 minutes left (74:24) on a shot by Braden Bailey.

The Seasiders had 23 shots in the match, six of them on goal. Hawai`i Hilo had eight shots on the day, five of them on goal. Dwayne Wittman got credit for the BYUH shutout and had five saves in the match.
