Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Silverswords shut down Vulcans, 2-0

KEAAU—Chaminade's Jaewon Huh scored three minutes into the match to set the tone for a Silverswords victory over Hawai`i Hilo in a Pacific West Conference men's soccer match on Thursday afternoon at Paiea Stadium, 2-0.

With the win, the Silverswords improved to 3-2 in conference play and 3-4 overall. The Vulcans dropped to 0-4-1 in the PacWest and are now 1-7-1 on the year.

The victory was a measure of revenge of sorts for Chaminade, who lost to UHH earlier in the year in a non-conference contest on this same field, 2-1 in overtime.

Huh scored off a pass from Tyler Braunthal before most of the fans had even settled into their seats. Braunthal passed from the right side and found Huh to the left, who rifled his shot past Vulcan goalkeeper Joshua Jasper.

Chaminade scored again with just under 20 minutes to go before halftime when a Vulcan player passed back to Jasper, but the Hilo keeper wasn't expecting the ball and it rolled into the net for an "own goal".

The Silverswords played ball control in the second half, although the Vulcans managed six shots after the break, including one by Evan Bacani that banged off the right post.

Bern Buescherhoff got credit for the shutout, his third this year in Pacific West Conference play. The junior from Germany had four saves. The Silverswords have now won three of their last four matches.

The Vulcans had 10 shots in the match, with four on goal. Chaminade had four shots of each.

The Vulcans will continue a five-match home stand at Kamehameha School on Saturday when they host California Baptist. Start time will be 4:30 p.m.
