KEAAU—Turnabout is fair play, at least today it was for the Chaminade women's soccer team.
The Silverswords, who lost to Hawaii Hilo earlier this season on this same field in a non-conference match, took the victory today over the Vulcans by the same 1-0 count. This time, the match was a Pacific West Conference counter, giving Chaminade a 2-3 record in league play and a 2-6 mark overall. The Vulcans fell to 0-2-3 in the PacWest and are now 2-3-3 on the year.
Caitlin Tatemichi scored the only goal of the afternoon with 21:49 to go in the first half. The sophomore took a pass from Kelli Fryxell at the top of the box and fired a shot through a scrum of bodies into the left lower corner of the net past UHH keeper
Jenna Hufford.
The Vulcans had a few scoring opportunities in the second half, the best came about midway through the period.
Kayela Santiago found herself in a breakaway situation but Silverswords goalie Brandee Lane came out and made a sliding stop.
Lane, who is one of the PacWest leaders in saves, added four more in recording the shutout. Hufford was the hard-luck losing keeper and had four saves in the match.
The Silverswords had six total shots, four on goal, while the Vulcans finished with seven shots in the match, four on goal.
The Vulcans will continue a five-match home stand at Kamehameha School on Saturday when they host California Baptist. Start time will be 7:30 p.m.
