Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Vulcans edged by Lancers, 1-0

KEAAU—Justene Kesterson came off the bench and made her substitution count in the most dramatic way, scoring the winning goal during a 1-0 California Baptist victory over Hawai`i Hilo in women's soccer action under the lights at Paiea Stadium.

Kesterson's score helped give the Lancers their first road victory of the season and they improved to 2-1-1 in the Pacific West Conference and 3-4-2 on the year. Hawai`i Hilo dropped to 0-3-3 in the PacWest and to 2-4-3 in 2016.

Kesterson broke away with the ball and found herself in a one-on-one situation with UHH goalkeeper Jenna Hufford with just over 18 minutes left in the match. Her shot just skidded past the keeper and into the net for what would be the game winner.

CBU kept Hufford and the Vulcan defense busy all night. The Lancers had 15 shots on the evening, seven of them on goal. The Vulcans had three shots, two of them on goal. Hufford had five saves in giving up just the one score, while the Lancers' Sara Escobedo got the shutout with two saves.

The Vulcans will be right back here at Kamehameha School on Thursday afternoon, taking on Dixie State in a PacWest match. Start time will be 3:30 p.m.
