University of Hawai`i at Hilo Athletic Director
Patrick Guillen today announced the appointment of
Kula Oda as associate athletic director, effective June 6, 2016.
"I am pleased to have Kula join the Vulcan Athletics Department Administrative team," Guillen said. "He brings a unique skill set to the department with his successful coaching background, broad-based fiscal management experience here at UHH and a proven track record of building and nurturing positive relationships on and off campus.
"We are fortunate to have him join our team and I look forward to working with him on a daily basis as we continue to move our department forward."
Oda will be responsible for internal operations including business operations, budgeting and the ticket office. He will also oversee event and game management among other duties as assigned.
Oda leaves his post as UH Hilo Division of Student Affairs Budget Manager/Fiscal officer.
"I'm honored to be given this opportunity," Oda said. "This is honestly a dream job situation for me and I'm looking forward to jumping in and getting started. The student athletes, staff, and community make the UH Hilo Athletic Department a special place, and I am excited to be part of that on a full time basis."
Oda brings a lengthy resume of involvement in Vulcan Athletics. This past year he served as the Athletics Facilities and Event Manager. In 1999, he took over the UH Hilo men's and women's tennis program before taking a two-year break to further his education. He returned in 2002 to begin a decade-long run taking teams to NCAA regional and national tournaments, building community support and operating the Vulcan Tennis Center.
Oda received his bachelor of business administration in marketing from the University of Hawai'i.
