Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hungry Penguins take down Vulcans

SAN RAPHAEL, Calif.--A frustrated, hungry and angry animal can be very dangerous and the Hawai`i Hilo men's soccer team experienced that truth today at Dominican.

The Vulcans felt the brunt of the Penguin's frustration to a tough start to their 2016 season, falling 5-0 in the Pacific West Conference opener for both teams. It was Domincan's first win in six tries on the season (1-5/1-0) while the Vuls fell to 1-4/0-1.

The Penguins didn't waste much time getting on the board, scoring less than two minutes into the match. Luke Raley scored the first of his two goals on the day before the fans were settled into their seats. Matt Case would add a goal and assisted on Austen McGregor's score before the end of the half, giving the hosts a 3-0 edge heading into the locker room.

Raley scored again in the 58th minute and the final tally for the day came in the 75th minute on a shot by Chase Whitfield..

Both teams had seven shots on the day, with six on goal for Dominican and five for Hilo. But Dominican stopper Oscar O'Con had five saves in recording the shutout in what was otherwise a statistically even match, except for the score of course.

The Vulcans will have a chance to erase this memory on Saturday, when they continue their three-match swing through northern California with a match at Academy of Art in San Francisco. Start time will be 2:30 p.m. Pacific, 11:30 a.m. in Hawai`i.
