SAN DIEGO, Calif.--Two second half runs separated host Point Loma from visiting Hawai`i Hilo on Saturday at Golden Gymnasium, giving the Sea Lions an 87-73 win over the Vulcans.
Point Loma improved to 13-9 overall with the victory and to 9-6 in the Pacific West Conference. The Vulcans fell to 6-14 on the year and to 4-10 in conference action.Â
Randan Berinobis led UHH in the scoring column with 16 points, and also on the glass with six rebounds.
The two teams traded baskets for most of the first half, with a three-pointer by PLNU's Skyler White giving the Sea Lions a 35-32 lead at the break. But Point Loma opened up the second half with a 11-0 run and then minutes later put together a 10-0 blitz to add distance between the two squads. After that, the Vulcans would get no closer than the final 14-point margin.
Berinobis had four teammates also in double figures, led by
Brian Ishola's 15 points.
Parker Farris added 14, Eric Wattree had 11 despite playing only 20 minutes before fouling out, and
Darius Johnson-Wilson contributed 10.Â
Point Loma's Josh Rodriguez led all scorers with 21 points, while Sea Lions Sterling Somers (16/11) and Vince Boumann (12/11) both had double-doubles. PLNU also out-rebounded Hawai`i Hilo, 51-23.
UHH's long road trip of four games behind them, they will next host Fresno Pacific on campus (Vulcan Gymnasium) on Thursday.
