LAIE, Hawai`i--For the second time in two days, the Hawai`i Hilo men's tennis team came up just match short, this time falling to Colgate 5-4 on the BYU-Hawaii tennis courts.

The Vulcans, who also lost to BYU-H yesterday by a 5-4 score, fell to 4-7 overall. The Raiders, an NCAA Division I team out of New York, improved to 5-3.

As was the case yesterday, UHH split the singles matches at three wins each, but lost two of the three doubles matches.

Vaclav Slezak improved to 9-1 on the season at No. 1 singles with an easy 6-1, 6-1 victory and also teamed with doubles partner Stefan Coney to win a battle at No. 1 doubles over Jacob Daugherty and Jake Hirshberg, 9-8 (8-6). But the Raiders captured the other two doubles matches, including a marathon match at No. 3 when Dean Koman and Win Reynolds edged UHH's Daniel Tada and Gregory Zukeran in extra time, 9-8 (7-5). 

In singles play, in addition to Slezak's win, Alex Fillat Perez claimed victory on court two with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win over Hirshberg, and Coney won at No. 4 singles in a battle with Noah Rosenblat, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. 

The Vulcans have one more match on Oahu, taking on No. 1 nationally ranked Hawaii Pacific on Thursday, start time is 11:30 a.m. at the Kailua Racquet Club.
