HILO, Hawai`i--The Hawai`i Hilo men's tennis team enjoyed a rare match on campus and got back on the winning track at the same time with a 7-2 win over California Lutheran on Monday at the UH Hilo tennis courts.

The Vulcans improved to 5-8 on the season with the win, while the NCAA Division III Kingsmen fell to 2-8. UH Hilo will play on their campus courts again on Tuesday, hosting Carleton College at noon. 

UH Hilo swept the doubles matches on a warm and breezy day, and won four of the six doubles encounters. Alex Fillat Perez, Gregory Zukeran, Stefan Coney, and Bruno Figlia were all double winners on the afternoon. 

Fillat Perez won a hard fought battle at No. 2 singles, edging CLU's Dara Kashani 6-1, 3-6, 10-6. He also teamed with Figlia to win on court two in doubles, 8-4. Figlia won his No. 5 singles match 6-0, 6-2. Zukeran slashed and lobbed his way to a 6-3, 6-1 win on the third singles court, and also won at No. 3 doubles with Daniel Tada, 8-1. Tada, the lone senior on the men's team, was honored after the match on Senior Day.

Coney won at No. 4 singles (6-1, 6-4) and triumphed at No. 1 doubles with Vaclav Slezak, 8-3. In singles, Slezak lost for just the third time this season in an entertaining match with Ransom Braaten, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) at No. 1 singles. 

With the victory, the Vulcans snapped a four-match losing streak.
