LAKEWOOD, Calif.--The UH Hilo men's tennis team swept doubles play in their Friday afternoon match with Concordia, and it was a good thing that they did.

The Vulcans won the match, 6-3, splitting the singles contests during a close bout with the Eagles at the Lakewood Tennis Center. UH Hilo improved to 9-10 on the season with the victory, while host Concordia fell to 7-7.

UHH put the Eagles in a big hole to begin the match. Vaclav Slezak and Stefan Coney won at first doubles (8-4), Bruno Figlia and Alex Fillat Perez won on court two (8-5) and Daniel Tada and Gregory Zukeran captured third doubles, 8-5.

Slezak improved to 14-4 on the season with an easy win on court one, 6-3, 6-2, and Fillat Perez did the same at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2. Figlia improved to 12-5 in singles play with a victory on court five, 6-0, 6-0. The Eagles won in straight sets at No. 3 and 4, and then Ryuta Ogawa lost a battle on court six to Thijs Hagen, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). 

The Vulcans will get one day off before taking on UC San Diego on Sunday. The Tritons are ranked third in the west region, while the Vulcans are sixth.
