IRVINE, Calif.--UH Hilo senior first baseman
Phillip Steering has been named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week, announced on Monday by the league office in Irvine.
Steering was named for his work early last week in UH Hilo's four-game sweep of visiting St. Martin's. In a 5-0 win over the Saints, Steering went 4-for-4 with a double, home run and three RBI. He also scored twice. The next day during a 15-10 slugfest, the Lake Forest, Calif. native was 3-for-6 with a double and two RBI, scoring twice.
Last year, Steering was a Second Team All-PacWest pick, and a Third Team Academic All-American.
The Vulcans will play their own Alumni this Saturday at Wong Stadium (1 pm) and then will host Biola for the PacWest opener on March 1.
