Two Hawai`i Hilo athletes that played a large role in Vulcan victories this past week have been chosen at Pepsi Athletes of the Week.
Junior goalkeeper
Michael Harre anchored a stellar Vulcan defense during a 1-0 men's soccer win at home versus Notre Dame de Namur on Wednesday. Harre (pronounced Harry), had nine saves, many of them acrobatic, as the last stop behind a UH HIlo defense that proved difficult to get past. Harre, a transfer from Maryville, an NCAA Division II school in MIssouri, faced 11 Argonaut shots. For the St. Louis native, this was the first shutout of his Vulcan career. It helped UH Hilo improve to 1-1 in the PacWest. The Vulcans will have two matches this week, hosting Dominican on Wednesday and Fresno Pacific on Saturday.
Junior outside hitter
Bria Beale had two outstanding matches to help the Vulcans win a pair of matches at home against Concordia and Biola. The Eastvale, Calif. native led her team in kills both nights. She had 18 kills and hit .389 against Biola, adding three aces and 13 digs. She had six kills in the second set. Against Concordia, she had 14 kills in just three sets. She hit .324 and had 17 digs. Beale, a First Team All-PacWest Conference pick last year, leads the conference with 3.73 kills per set and 4.26 points per game. The Vulcans continue a long homestand this week with matches on Thursday (Notre Dame de Namur), Saturday (Fresno Pacific) and Sunday (Dominican).
