Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late scores lift Vulcans to 2-1 win over Eagles

LA MIRADA, Calif--UH Hilo scored twice in the final 20 minutes to snag victory from the jaws of defeat during a 2-1 men's soccer win over Biola at Al Barbour Field on Saturday night.

Jorge Martinez scored the equalizer on a free kick at 72:02, and Robert George scored the game winner with just 1:56 left on the clock (88:04) to clinch the stunning comeback. The Vulcans, playing their first match of a tough four-game road trip, improved to 2-3 in the Pacific West Conference and to 3-7 overall. For Biola, it was their first loss in conference play (2-1-2) and they are now 4-5-3 on the year.

It was the first loss for Biola since Sept. 21, and they hadn't given up a goal in three and a half matches.

The Eagles scored first after a scoreless first half. At 51:22, Oscar  Rubalcava broke the deadlock, taking a pass from Jack Kilgallon for the score. It looked like that goal might hold up, until the 73rd minute.

Martinez took the free kick after a Biola foul, drilling it into the upper right corner of the net. Still, overtime loomed until George's winner. On that play, George took a pass from Henrique Castilho and also sent his shot in the upper right hand corner of the goal to give UHH a 2-1 lead with less than two minutes remaining.

UH Hilo still had to withstand one more Biola attack, with goalkeeper Michael Harre saving a shot with 40 seconds left.

The match was fairly even statistically, with both teams sending six shots on goal. Overall, the Vulcans had 19 shots and Biola had 25. Harre finished with five saves, while the Eagles had a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.

UH Hilo continues their southern California trip with a Monday night match at Azusa Pacific.
