HILO, Hawai`i--Freshman
Nanea Wall scored twice and
Brenna Rill had a goal and an assist as the Hawai`i HIlo women's soccer team won at home by a 3-0 count for the second time this week.
The Vulcans, who topped Holy Names 3-0 on Monday, improved to 4-4-2 in the Pacific West Conference and to 5-7-4 overall. They have one match remaining, versus Chaminade on Saturday. Start time for Senior Day is 12:30 pm.
Academy of Art, who was one slot behind the Vulcans before the match, is now 7-8-3 overall and 3-6-2 in the PacWest.
Wall, a freshman from the Kona side of the island, scored her fourth and fifth goals of the season in helping the Vulcans get to .500 in conference action. Rill scored her fourth goal and had her first assist on the year.
Wall got the scoring started in the 22nd minute, after the Vulcans had already sent four shots on goal. It was an improbable score, that began on a goal kick at the other end of the field by goalkeeper
Bailey Cahill. Wall caught up with it at midfield and took all the way to the other end for the score.Â
The score at halftime was 1-0, but not for long in the second half. Rill scored in the 50th minute, off a pass from
Christina Kanellou to make it 2-0. Nine minutes later (58:28), Wall scored again, this time from Rill.Â
The Vulcans dominated the match statistically. They took 20 shots, 15 of them on goal. The Urban Knights had four shots, none that had to be saved by the Vulcan keeper combo of
Bailey Cahill and
Taylor Hornburg.
Academy of Art goalkeeper Lara Pflicke had a busy night with 12 saves.
