SAN ANTONIO, Tex.--The No. 7 nationally ranked Hawai`i Hilo Vulcans will get an up close and personal look at some other teams in their demographic this coming week in San Antonio, Texas.
The Vulcans will play five matches in five days, kicking things off against No. 1 nationally ranked Barry (Fla.). That match is slated to begin on Monday (March 11) at 9:30 a.m, (Central) at the North Side courts.
Barry reached the national title match last year, and have won three NCAA Division II championships in this decade. The Buccaneers are 5-1 on the season, with their only loss being a 4-3 setback to the No. 1 ranked NAIA team in the country, Georgia Gwinett.
On Tuesday, UH Hilo's opponent will be St. Mary's (Tex.), who is 2-6. On Wednesday, it's Southwest Baptist (Mo.) who is unblemished at 6-0 and ranked No. 10, and on Thursday they will face off with Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.), who is 3-2 , but those two losses have come against defending national champion Columbus State and No. 4 ranked West Florida. The Vulcans will wrap the trip on Friday against St. Edwards (Tex.) who is 9-3 and has won eight matches in a row coming into the tournament.
All the matches will begin at 9:30 am (4:30 am Hawai`i time), and will be played at North Side ISD or the Anne Marie Tennis Club in San Antonio.
The Vulcans will jumping right into the fire after not having played since Feb. 16-18. They are 2-0 on the year, with wins over Holy Names and UC San Diego.
