IRVINE, Calif.—90 University of Hawai`i Hilo student-athletes have earned Pacific West Conference Scholar Athlete honors, announced today by the conference office.
To qualify, the student-athlete must have a 3.0 accumulative grade point average or better, have competed at least two semesters at the school, and played on the team this past year.
90 UHH scholar student-athletes is a record number for the school. The Vulcans had a total of 189 student-athletes compete last fall, meaning close to half of them had 3.0 GPA's or better.
For UH Hilo, the women's soccer team had the most honorees with 18. The team with the highest percentage of student-athletes qualifying was women's basketball, with seven of the nine players making the grade(s). Other Vulcan teams with more than half of their players posting a 3.0 or better were women's cross country (5 of 8), men's golf ( 7 of 10), women's tennis (4 of 7), women's golf (6 of 8), and women's soccer (18 of 28).
