Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Vulcans on other side of Broncos wrath

POMONA, Calif.--Probably the most telling factor for Hawaii Hilo in their men's soccer loss today to Cal Poly Pomona took place over the two weeks previous.

The two-time defending west region champions and back-to-back NCAA Final Four participants took out their early season frustrations on the Vulcans during a 6-0 win on Monday night at Kellogg Stadium. The Broncos, ranked No. 2 nationally in the NCAA preseason poll, didn't win a match in their first four starts (0-3-1), and they were bound and determined to right the ship tonight.

They did so very quickly, scoring twice in the first four minutes. They would find the back of the net five times in the first half, and out-shoot the Vulcans 16-3 in the first 45 minutes. Cyro Oliveira started the scoring at 2:17, dribbling past a bevy of defenders before launching a shot into the lower left corner of the goal. Oliveira would add another score with two minutes left in the half, and in between the Broncos would tack on a pair of goals from Jimmie Villalobos and Eduardo Faria.

CPP would add their final score of the night in the 65th minute when Omer Green tallied the sixth goal. The final stat line showed the Broncos with 21 shots to UH HIlo's 9.

The Vulcans, now 0-3 after two very close losses on this southern California trip, will return to Hilo to host Hawaii Pacific on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. The match will be played on campus at the upper field.
