Box Score HILO, Hawai`i--Hawai`i Pacific's Gerrit Arzberger scored twice and added two assists to help the visiting Sharks race past host Hawai`i Hilo 6-1 in men's soccer action on Saturday at the George and Marion Hall Memorial Stadium.
The Sharks, who also defeated Chaminade by the same score on Thursday, improved to 2-2-1 on the season. The Vulcans fell to 0-4 in the non-conference game between the PacWest rivals. The two squads will play a league match next Sunday on Oahu.
Arzberger, a junior from Germany, scored once in each half and assisted on HPU's first and fourth scores of the day. The first score came in the sixth minute of the match (5:42) when Arzberger launched a high corner kick, which was touched by Isac Mansson to Jair Espinoza, who deposited it into the goal. Arzberger than made it 2-0 off a pass from Paul Enzigmueller to send the Sharks into the halftime locker room with a two-goal lead. The Sharks had a 8-2 shot lead in the first 45 minutes, including 5-2 in shots on goal.
19 minutes into the second half, Arzberger struck again on a nice give and go with Espinoza. Arzberger started it, gave it to Espinoza and touched it back to him for the score. Eight minutes later Arzberger fed Mitchell Brenner for the goal. Brenner had just checked into the match and scored moments later to make it 4-0.
The Vulcans got on the board at 84:24 off a throw in.
Gabriel Contreras tossed to
Pedro Werneck who tapped it in to make the count 4-1. But the Sharks would add two more goals, both of them off the foot of Reece Montgomery, who came off the bench. Montgomery scored twice in the span of just over two minutes, at 87:13 and 89:29.
HPU out-shot UH HIlo 17-6 in the match and 12-5 in shots on goal. The Sharks had six corner kicks to none for UHH.
The Vulcans will head to Oahu next weekend, taking on Chaminade on Friday in a non-conference match, and the Sharks again in a Pacific West Conference counter on Sunday.
