PLEASANTON, Calif.—Hawai`i Hilo fell back one spot on the final day of the Bay Area Invitational, finishing in tenth place in the 15-team field.
Dustin Franko and
Andrew Otani had the Vulcan's top scoring totals in Tuesday's final round, both shooting 77's (+5). Franko finished at +7 for the tournament (72-75-77), tied for 22
nd, and Otani ended at +8 (72-75-77), tied for 27
th.
Cal State East Bay won the tournament, which was played at the Ruby Hill Golf Club. The Pioneers (876) won by three strokes over Chico State (879), who finished one shot in front of Cal State Monterey Bay (880).
The Vulcans, who were ninth after the first two rounds, wrapped up at 913, six shots behind ninth place Academy of Art and three strokes in front of Dominican.
Medalist honors went to Viktor Olund of Concordia (Ore.), who finished at -4 (74-65-73). Two shots back was Nicholas Caputo (Chico State) at -2 (76-71-67), and there was a tie for third between Ryan Hong (Cal State East Bay) and Jaxson Daskalos (Concordia) at -1.
For the Vulcans, after Franko and Otani was
Warren Miller (+15),
Nicholas Gomez (+21) and
Evan Merrier (+28). Competing as an independent,
Taylor Patrick was at +8, with UHH's lowest round of the day (76). The Vulcans had a team-best five eagles in the tournament, but couldn't take advantage as they also had the fewest pars.
The Vulcans are about a month away from their next tournament, March 23-24 at the SoCal Intercollegiate in Carlsbad, Calif.
