A pair of island soccer stars are the UH Hilo Pepsi Athletes of the Week for their performances in home matches last week.
High scoring forward
Daelenn Tokunaga continued to make her mark for a Vulcan team that is chasing a conference title and postseason berth. The University of Hawai`i transfer assisted
Christina Kanellou with the winning goal in the 78th minute during a 1-0 victory over Concordia, and scored UHH's opening goal (7th minute) in a 2-0 triumph over Biola. Tokunaga leads the PacWest in goals with 11 and in total points with 25, and will direct her Vulcan team on Wednesday against PacWest powerhouse Point Loma in a battle of the top two teams in the conference standings.
Senior defender
Kaleihalia Tolentino-Perry earned UH Hilo's Male Pepsi Athlete of the Week award after a pair of standout performances against Concordia and Biola. The Big Island native had an assist in the first five minutes of UHH's 2-1 win over Concordia and led the Vulcan defense during a stretch of 180 minutes where they only gave up three total goals. "Kalei's presence on the field is always felt," said his coach
Paul Regrutto. "He is always a huge factor for us every time he steps onto the field."
