SAN DIEGO, Calif.--
The UH Hilo volleyball team bounced back from one of its most disappointing losses with one of their most dominant wins during a 25-20, 25-12, 25-17 victory over Point Loma on Wednesday night in Golden Gymnasium.

The Vulcans, who had their eight-match winning streak snapped on Monday night in straight sets at Concordia, fired on all cylinders against another conference title contender tonight. The Vulcans recorded their eighth sweep of the season while the Sea Lions went down in three sets for just the second time this year.

UH Hilo improved to 13-3 on the season and to 10-2 in the Pacific West Conference, while PLNU fell to 12-8 on the year and to 8-4 in the PacWest.

The Vulcans hit a sizzling .346 for the match, led by Kamilla Marinas who had 12 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Tani Hoke led the defense with 19 digs, while Ashton Jessee had nine kills and three blocks. Setter Kendall Kott handed out 33 assists.

Jessee had six kills in the first set as the Vulcans led from first serve to finish, hitting .439 in the set. UHH had 19 kills in the game, running out to a 10-3 lead on their way to a 25-20 win.

In the second set, the Vulcans blitzed out to leads of 7-1 and 13-3. They would take a 18-6 margin before finishing the game with a Madelyn Blandford ace. They hit .379 in that set in cruising to a 25-12 win.

Point Loma came out firing in the third set, taking their first lead of the night at 5-1. But the Vulcan stormed back to tie the set at 7-7 and wouldn't trail again. They led by as many as eight points before Samara Cruz finished off the night with a kill and the UHH win (25-17).

Cruz had nine kills on the night in the balanced attack, and Bria Beale and Sydney Gott each had seven.

The Vulcans will wrap up their southern California road trip with a Friday night match at Biola. Their scheduled match with Azusa Pacific has been postponed because of APU COVID protocals.
