SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.-- The men's soccer team made their lasting impact in the first ten minutes of the game.
Luca Lippert scored two goals with the help of his teammates that led to their eventual 2-1 win over Academy of Art.Â
Â
Lippert's first goal was passed down to him from
Tom Vorkastner and
David Mayser. Lippert was able to get a quick touch on the ball and send it past ART U's goalkeeper. A little over a minute later, Lippert got a second opportunity off a short cross from
Andrew Rehedul. Lippert had another good read and sent the ball flying toward the goals' post that was once again just past the Urban Knights' goalie.
Â
UH Hilo improved 3-5 and 1-3 in the PacWest, while ART U fell 0-7-1 and 0-3 in PacWest.
Â
UHH was unable to score again, but played good defense for the rest of the match. ART U made a comeback in the 63rd minute, but the Vulcans held them down to that one goal.Â
Â
The Vulcans and Urban Knights were even on shots and shots on goal, both having 16 shots total with six on goal. The Vulcan shot leaders were
Luca Lippert with four and
Tom Vorkastner with three.
Â
Michael Harre played the entire 90 minutes in the goal. Harre had five saves, four after UH Hilo's 2-0 lead, and two that were after ART U's goal that would have tied up the game.
Â
The Vulcans will play next Sunday, Oct. 10 at Dominican. The match is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. PT and will close UH Hilo's Northern California road trip.Â
