IRVINE, Calif-- The women's soccer team has been crowned the 2021 Co-Champions of the Pacific West Conference alongside Point Loma making history in a couple ways.Â
UH Hilo was awarded the PacWest automatic qualifier into regionals because they won the head-to-head against PLU in an epic 1-0 victory in overtime. Dealenn Tokunaga had the golden goal that snapped the Sea Lions' 34-match conference winning streak. Tokunaga is also the PacWest's leading scorer with a league-best of 13 goals, including seven game-winning goals, which is the third-most by a PacWest player in a single season.
This will be the Vulcans FIRST time in program history advancing to postseason.Â
"We are obviously really happy and excited to have ended the season on top of the table and have the opportunity to continue on to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history," said head coach Gene Okamura. "This group has worked tremendously hard and has overcome a lot to be here. I'm super proud of them."
The selection show will be Monday, Nov. 15 at 1:00pm Hawaii Time on NCAA.com where the Vulacns will find out their postseason destination and opponent. UH Hilo will carry a 12-3 overall mark into the tournament, which would begin next Thursday (Nov. 18) or Friday.
