ANCHORAGE, Alaska-- Donald McHenry totaled 20 points and five rebounds as the No. 19-ranked UH Hilo men's basketball team lost 76-67 to Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday afternoon in the Alaska Airlines Center.
The Vulcans (4-2) and Nanooks (3-2) battled closely in the first half, trading points with the highest lead being five points by UHH.
When it came down to halftime, it was Alaska Fairbanks who led by one point.
Alaska Fairbanks' Abdullah Mohamed had the three that gave his team the lead in the second half, until the last five minutes of the game.
The Vulcans, chasing just a couple points, held the pressure on the Nanooks continuing to chip away at their lead. It was Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones who had the layup that gave his team the one-point lead, but the Vulcans were unable to hold it for long.
Alaska Fairbanks' lead scorer, Coleman Sparling, scored the basket that gave UAF the final lead.
Tait-Jones ended the game posting 15 points, Jamie Strong was just behind him with 11, and Darren Williams followed with 10. Overall, the Vulcans shot 50 percent from the free throw line and 44 percent from the field.
The Vulcans play next tomorrow, Sunday Nov. 28th at 3:15pm HT against Alaska Anchorage back in the Alaska Airlines Center. The Red and Black previously beat the Seawolves 75-72 back home in Hilo and are looking to improve their record to 5-2.
