A pair of UH Hiilo guards helped the men's and women's basketball teams to a clean weekend sweep of Chaminade at Vulcan Gymnasium.
Senior guard
Jordan Graves helped UH Hilo "steal" a couple of basketball wins over the weekend against Chaminade. The Monterey, Calif. native's defense is always a key factor in Vulcan success, and on Sunday it was center stage. The 6-foot-3 guard had five steals in the first half of UHH's 71-67 win, helping to give the Vulcans a lead that they wouldn't give up. He finished with six for the game, equaling his career high. He also totaled 19 points for the weekend as UHH improved to 7-1 overall.
Junior guard
Mandi Kawaha played a big role in a pair of Vulcan basketball wins last weekend against Chaminade. The Hilo High School alum had a near-triple double on Saturday with 18 points, seven rebounds and seven assists during a 73-58 comeback victory. On Sunday, she added 12 more points in a 53-46 win, giving her 30 points, ten rebounds and eight assists for the weekend. On the season, the 5-foot-2 guard is averaging 11.4 points a game and a team-best 3.5 assists and 12 steals.
UH Hilo will wrap up the home portion of their seasons this Wednesday and Thursday against Hawai`i Pacific.
