HONOLULU, Hawai`i--Host Hawaii Pacific got on the scoreboard with less than ten minutes to play to slip past Hawaii Hilo 1-0 in men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at St. Louis Field.
Paul Enzigmueller flipped a penalty kicked past Vulcan keeper
Christian Souza for what proved to be the game winner in a physical, defensive battle. The shot came after a Vulcan foul at 80:08.
The Sharks are now 2-0 in the shortened spring season, while the Vulcans slipped to 1-1.Â
Hawaii Pacific had 12 shots on the game, five of them on goal. The Vulcans had eight shots, two of them on goal. It was a physical match, with 19 total fouls called, three yellow cards and a red card on HPU, and a yellow on the Vulcans.
A lot of the offensive action came in the late moments. UHH sent shots towards Sharks goalkeeper Connor Margo at 76 minutes (
Bo Antonissen) and at 80:30 and 88:25 by
Kaleihalia Tolentino-Perry, with one of them having to be saved.
Margo had two saves in the shutout win for HPU. Souza had four for the Vulcans. UH Hilo had four corner kicks to Hawaii Pacific's one.Â
The Vulcans are slated to have one more match each against Hawaii Pacific and Chaminade in this spring season. Sites and times will be announced soon.
