AZUSA, Calif.--No. 8 nationally ranked Azusa Pacific took the doubles point and used victories at the top three singles spots to roll to a 4-3 triumph over No. 20 UH Hilo on Saturday afternoon at the Munson and Vavougian Tennis Complex.

The Cougars, who also defeated Colorado Mesa earlier today, improved to 4-2 on the season. Their only losses have been to Division I teams. The Vulcans are now 2-2 with matches coming up on Monday against No. 14 Concordia and Tuesday at Point Loma.
 
The Cougars, who had the top two ranked players in the west last year, used that duo to win at No. 1 doubles and in the top two singles spots. Jakob Schnaitter and Sam Sippel topped Martin Soukal and Alessio Demichelis on court one in doubles (6-4) to clinch the team point. Earlier, APU had won on court two, and the Vulcans had won third doubles with Chun En Wu and Joshua Liu cruising to a 6-3 win.

Sippel was then the first singles winner, topping Demichelis (6-2, 6-0), but the Vulcans tied the match with singles wins at 5 and 6. Santiago Di Loreto (6-3, 6-0) and Liu (6-4, 6-0) cruised on their courts to tie the match at 2-2. 

That left a battle on court one between Soukal and Schnaitter, with the APU German eventually prevailing, 7-5, 6-3 to put the Cougars up 3-2. The vicgtory was then clinched on court three when Ryan Nuno won in three sets over En Wu, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.UHH's Luca Checchio and APU's Leyton Bohren had split sets on court four before the Cougar had to default, giving the Vulcans their third victory and making for the final count of 4-3.
