No. 2 Seed Vulcans Face Biola

SURPRISE, Ariz.--No. 2 seed UH Hilo will face Biola in the quarterfinal round of the 2021 Pacific West Conference Championships on Thursday, April 22 at the Surprise Tennis Center.

The Vulcans, 5-2 will square off against the Eagles for the second time this season. UHH topped the SoCal team 4-0 on March 5 in La Mirada.

"That was a good win for us at the time, Biola is a very solid team," Vulcan head coach Kallen Mizuguchi said. "The score was deceiving, the match was closer than the score."

Two of the unfinished matches on that day were in the third set and Biola won one of the doubles matches. Biola comes into the tournament with a 9-8 record.

All of the men's matches in the tournament will take place at 1 pm PT. The winner of the UH Hilo-Biola match will play in Friday's semifinals against the winner of No. 3 seed Hawaii Pacific versus No. 6 Metro State-Denver.

Azusa Pacific is the top seed, followed by the Vulcans, Hawaii Pacific, Concordia, Point Loma, Metro State-Denver, Biola, and Colorado Mesa.

The ITA National Division II rankings also came out today, with APU (15-3) the top west team at No. 7. UH Hilo (5-2) is No. 12, Hawaii Pacific (3-3) is No. 13 and Concordia (8-6) is No. 14.

The winner of the PacWest tournament gets an automatic qualifying entry into the NCAA West Regional tournament. The NCAA tournament field will be announced on May 4, with the west region portion and the final national tournament both played at the Surprise Tennis Center.
