One Week Later, Vulcans Rally For Win

HONOLULU, Oahu--Down five runs with a week to think about it, the UH Hilo Vulcans rallied back during Friday's resumption game for a 9-8 win over Hawaii Pacific at Les Murakami Stadium.

The two teams will play the nightcap shortly, followed by Saturday and Sunday doubleheaders for a six-game series.

Game one of the series started last weekend in Hilo before the contest was halted due to wet weather. The Sharks were leading 6-0 after the top of the first, with the Vulcans getting one run back in the bottom of the second before the stoppage

Fast forward to Friday afternoon on the campus of University of Hawaii. With UHH as the home team, they began the game by adding a couple of runs in the second to cut the deficit to three runs (6-3).

Christian Sadler took the mound for the Vulcans, allowing one run in the third giving HPU a 7-3 lead. But he settled in after that, eventually pitching 5.1 innings, allowing only three hits and a walk while fanning six.

His team put Sadler in a position to be the winner with two runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth. Chris Aubort hit a two-run homer in the fourth to cut the Shark lead to 7-5. In the sixth, Lawson Faria doubled and stole third and would score on a sacrifice fly. Casey Yamauchi would add a two-run double and Teppei Fukuda sliced a two-run single to put the Vulcans up for good.

The Sharks would get one run in the top of the seventh off of Vulcan closer John Kea, but the senior righthander would then close the door for his first save of the season.

Faria had two hits, both doubles and scored three times. Trey Yukomoto had two hits, as did Yamauchi and Fukuda. Sadler got the win in relief to move to 2-0.
