AZUSA, Calif.--UH Hilo spotted host Azusa Pacific a seven-run lead before a late game comeback left them short at the PacWest AQ Baseball Pod Series at Cougar Field on Friday afternoon, 11-7.
The Vulcans will play their third game of the series this afternoon at 4 pm against Academy of Art. UH Hilo is now 13-14 on the season, while APU improved to 31-8.
The Cougars had 17 hits, including five home runs. The Vulcans had 15 hits of their own but only one run through the first five innings of play while the Cougars built an 8-1 lead.
Chris Aubort had three hits, including a home run, a double, two RBI and scored three times.
Bradyn Yoshida also had three hits,
Casey Yamauchi had two and
Kekaulike Kalua had a pinch-hit home run in the ninth inning.
Vulcan starter
Kyle Alcorn took the loss (3-3), giving up four runs and seven hits in five innings of work.
On Thursday, the Vulcans spotted Academy of Art an 8-0 lead before rallying back just short at 8-5. UH Hilo is now 0-2 in the AQ Pod Series.
