AIEA, O'ahu-- Tia Kualii finished as the top scorer for UH Hilo in their first tournament of the 2021-22 season.
Kualii ended the HPU Sharks Shootout at +21 (84-81), 10th place overall, and 22 shots behind the winner Hana Mirnik of the University of Hawaii.
Tori Hironaga was the next Vulcan to finish at +25 (85-84).
The Vulcans finished in third place out of the four teams that competed (673), trailing Hawai'i Manoa (599) and Hawai'i Pacific (657) and finishing before the HPU "B" team (698).
The Rainbow Wahine took four out of the five top spots, with the Sharks Lily Landt squeezing her way into fourth for individual top players. Mirnik, the first place finisher, was below par yesterday and carded at par today, putting her six strokes above her teammate Momo Sugiyama, who was the second place finisher.
Just heating up for the season, four out of the five Vulcan players who competed today performed better than yesterday. UHH will head home to Hilo to prepare for their next tournament, the Sonoma State Invitational hosted by Sonoma State at the Santa Rosa Golf Club.
