IRVINE, Calif.--Vulcan
David Mayser scored twice during UH Hilo's 2-1 win over Chaminade last Thursday, earning plenty of back slaps and applause from his teammates.
Today, the Pacific West Conference congratulated him from afar with their Player of the Week award.
Mayser helped the Vulcans climb out of a 1-0 hole with a tying goal in the 50th minute and then the match-winner in overtime (93:14). The German native scored his first goal on a penalty kick and then cashed in the game clincher by dribbling to the top of the box and firing in a laser to the lower right-hand portion of the goal.
That was the season opener for the Vulcans, who then lost a heartbreaker on Saturday to Hawaii Pacific, 1-0. Both were non-conference matches. This week, the Vulcans will host a pair of soccer powers from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in Seattle Pacific (Wednesday) and Western Washington (Sunday).
