HILO, Hawai'i--
It was a rainy day, but the men's soccer team didn't let the gloom set them back. Coming off of a close loss to nationally ranked No. 17 Seattle Pacific, the Vulcans were fired up and ready to play. The Red and Black had three different players score a goal against the Vikings, in the close 3-2 victory.

UHH will cap WWU's Hawai'i trip with a 3-2 loss. The Vikings fall 2-5, while the Vulcans improve 2-2 for the season.

The Vulcans led 1-0 going into halftime. In the ninth minute of the match Alexander Hernandez-Herbach was in the right place at the right time to receive a good ball from Bo Antonissen deep in the field. Hernandez was then able to make a break for the goal successfully, pounding in a shot to the upper center of the net.

After halftime, UH Hilo came back with another goal in the 57th minute. Kaleihalia Tolentino-Perry shot a corner kick that landed in the box, right to where Caesar Hjerten was anticipating the ball. Hjerten then made a strategic move, reading the goalkeeper he headed the ball into the lower center of the goal sneaking right past the Western Washington goalie for a Vulcan goal.

With the score at 2-0, the Vikings continued to fight back, landing in a goal at the 73rd minute. The Vulcans, refusing to let up the pressure, answered back with a goal by Tom Vorkastner. Little did UH Hilo know that Vorkastner's goal would end up being the game-winner.

With one minute to spare, WWU landed in a penalty shot that brought the score up 3-2. The Vikings tried to push another goal across, but the clock ran out and the Vulcans took home the win.

Christian Souza made a total of three saves, really performing well in the goal. His first save was in the first half with one minute remaining. Souza made a diving catch towards the upper right of the net that allowed the Vulcans to go into halftime ahead 1-0. A potentially game-changing play that gave UHH the upper hand against WWU.

The Vulcans play next Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 2:30 p.m. against Azusa Pacific in their first conference game of the season.
