LA MIRADA, Calif.--Playing their third game in four nights, the UH Hilo women's basketball team couldn't find their shooting range during a 67-55 loss to host Biola on Tuesday night in Chase Gymnasium.
The Vulcans (7-5, 4-4 Pacific West Conference) struggled to find an offensive groove against the Eagles (10-5, 6-2 PacWest), failing to find their long range game. UHH went 0-for-15 from behind the arch, while the Eagles were able to knock down eight treys in 22 tries.
The cold night from downtown was very uncharacteristic for the Vulcans. Prior to the turn of the calendar year, the Vulcans were averaging seven three's a game, and had a season-high 12 in a win over Point Loma. In their last two games, they have converted just two of 22.
Where the Vulcans struggled on the offensive side they made up for on defense. UH Hilo held Biola to 67 points, forcing 17 BU turnovers with strong defensive pressure which led to seven team steals. UHH also had four team blocks to Biola's one, making the Eagles work hard for every basket.
The Vulcans' successful defensive pressure unfortunately wasn't enough to hold back the third best offensive team in the PacWest and the Eagles rode Amiah Simmons' 19 points in their 67-55 win.
