No Spectators Allowed For Basketball Games in January

HILO, Hawai'i-- Vulcan Athletics will not be allowing general admission spectators in the month of January for women's and men's basketball games at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

This includes the men's basketball's game against Holy Names University (Thursday, Jan. 6) and women's and men's games against Biola University (Monday, Jan. 10), Academy of Art University (Thursday, Jan. 13), and Dominican University (Monday, Jan. 17).

This decision comes as a result of the recent surge of positive COVID-19 cases and the spread of the Omicron variant island-wide and an effort to provide the safest measures for our student-athletes, visiting teams, and the Big Island community.

"With the rising case counts on the Big Island, we feel this is the prudent approach to ensure the health and safety of our students, staff and Big Island community," stated Athletic Director Patrick Guillen. "Of course we want our fans back in the stands as soon as possible.  We will reevaluate in the next couple weeks and hope to have our fans and spectators back cheering on our Vulcans when we host Azusa Pacific on February 3. Until then, please stay vigilant, safe and mahalo nui for your support during these challenging times."

Games will continue to be available via live stats and livestream courtesy of Out of Seas Media Inc. On Game Day, head over to the women's and men's basketball schedules to view Game Day links for live stats and livestream.

Mahalo for your kokua.
