SAN DIEGO, California – The Hawai'i Hilo men's soccer team fell by a score of 3-0 to Point Loma Nazarene Monday afternoon in Pacific West Conference play at PLNU Soccer Field.
The Vulcans were outshot by the Sea Lions at a wide-margin of 23-9 with PLNU hitting nine shots-on-goal compared to just one from Hawai'i Hilo.
PLNU wasted no time as Townsend Meyer took a ricocheted ball and sniped it in from the right side for a second-minute score.
Parker Scalzo followed with a header on a cross from Samuel Tuscano in the 36th minute, then later Marlon Buck managed to hit the corner of the goal in the 68th minute to cap the scoring.
Anree Bogart (Chula Vista, California/Eastlake HS) got the start in goal for the Vulcans, making two saves while Adam Frank (Reno, Nevada/Robert McQueen HS) played the second half with four stops.
What's Next
Hawai'i Hilo dropped to 4-6-4 overall, 3-3-2 PacWest while Point Loma Nazarene improved to 3-2-1 in the PacWest (6-5-3 overall).
The Vulcans continue on in southern California with a matchup against Concordia University Irvine (4-7-2, 3-1-1 PacWest) Thursday, Oct. 27.
The Sea Lions will return home to host Chaminade on Thursday.
Postseason Possibilities
The Pacific West Conference does not have a postseason tournament and its champion is dependent on the final results of the regular season.
Currently, Hawai'i Hilo is fifth in the standings at 11 points behind Hawai'i Pacific (4-2-0) and Holy Names (4-3-0) each with 12 points. Biola (5-0-3) sits atop with 18 points.
The PacWest Champion will receive an automatic spot in the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship West Region Tournament consisting of six teams. Champions from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC), California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), Lone Star Conference (LSC) and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) will also receive automatic bids, leaving five at-large bids open.
