Men's Soccer Downed by Golden Eagles, 2-0

Hawai‘i Hilo fell to Concordia University Irvine in Thursday-night action.

IRVINE, California – The Hawai'i Hilo men's soccer team fell to Concordia University Irvine, 2-0, Thursday evening in Pacific West Conference action at Eagles Field.

The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard in the 37th minute on a long cross by Anthony Morales from just inside the left corner that found Brett Lux's head on the opposite post for the score.

CUI managed another score late in the game with a goal from Kevin Sanchez in the 77th minute.

Adam Frank (Reno, Nevada/Robert McQueen HS) made his third start in goal, tallying up seven saves in the loss.

The Vulcans racked up 17 shots, five on goal, with Aidan Santos (Hilo, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Prep Academy) tallying up six attempts to lead the team.

What's Next

Hawai'i Hilo dropped to 4-7-4 overall, 3-4-2 PacWest while Concordia University Irvine improved to 4-2-1 in the PacWest (5-8-2 overall).

The Vulcans wrap up their season with a matchup against Azusa Pacific (5-7-3, 3-2-2 PacWest) Saturday, Oct. 29.

The Golden Eagles will return home to host Chaminade on Saturday.

Postseason Possibilities

The Pacific West Conference does not have a postseason tournament and its champion is dependent on the final results of the regular season.

With one match to go, Hawai'i Hilo sits at a tie — with Azusa Pacific — for No. 8 in the standings with 11 points.

Dominican (6-1-0 PacWest) and Biola (5-0-3) lead the conference with 18 points each.

The PacWest Champion will receive an automatic spot in the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship West Region Tournament consisting of six teams. Champions from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC), California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), Lone Star Conference (LSC) and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) will also receive automatic bids, leaving five at-large bids open.
