HILO, Hawai'i – The Hawai'i Hilo women's basketball team left Friday's game with its first victory of the season after closing out Multnomah University, 60-51, in non-conference action at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
Hawai'i Hilo pushed out to an early lead with all seven Vulcans who saw action in the quarter putting in points for a 20-10 lead.
Ten total total turnovers by the Vulcans in the second period allowed the Lions to come roaring back for 17 points as Hawai'i Hilo took just a two-point lead into halftime.
After a brief back and forth, Hawai'i Hilo extended itself for good with a 13-3 run to close out the third quarter. The Vulcans maintained their lead in a final period that saw spans of 1:27 and 2:13 without a bucket.

- Bree Olson notched her fourth-career double-double with 14 rebounds and 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting with four steals. The sixth-year senior scored eight points in the Vulcans' pivotal third-quarter performance.
- Mandi Kawaha led the Vulcans with 15 points to go along with eight rebounds.
- Mindy Kawaha and Kaile Cruz each chipped in 10 points as Kamalu Kamakawiwo'ole nabbed 10 rebounds.
- The Vulcans took 25 more attempts from the field than the Lions. Hawai'i Hilo went six for 27 from beyond the arc while Multnomah was one of six. The Lions made 26 trips to the free throw line (16 of 26) while the Vulcans went six of eight.
- Hawai'i Hilo finished with a 56-34 rebound advantage — 20-4 on offensive boards as Kamakawiwoole and Agonias had six apiece.
- Dalila Rincan led Multnomah with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting while going seven for 10 at the free throw line.
What's Next
Hawai'i Hilo improved to 1-1 overall while Multnomah fell to 2-1. The Lions defeated Chaminade, 88-73, last Wednesday.
The Vulcans will have a quick turnaround and return to action Saturday for round No. 2 with the Lions as they play again at 4 p.m. (6 p.m. Pacific Time) at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
Saturday's game was originally scheduled for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
