Hawai‘i Hilo shot just 27.7 percent from the field as it fell, 72-44, to UMary.

HILO, Hawai'i – The Hawai'i Hilo women's basketball team closed November-play of the Big Island Holiday Classic with a 72-44 loss to the University of Mary Friday evening at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

The Vulcans shot just 27.7 percent from the field (18 of 65) while making just three 3-pointers and going 5 of 10 at the free throw line.

UMary seemingly capitalized on its height advantage with a 30-20 points-in-the-paint edge and out-rebounding Hawai'i Hilo, 41-31, with an astounding 34-18 mark on defensive boards.

After a tied-ball game a quarter of the way through the first period, UMary extended itself with a 7-0 run and never looked back as it maintained a double-digit lead through for its first win of the season.
