HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Three Vulcans racked up double-digit scoring figures as the Hawai'i Hilo women's basketball team fended off Chaminade, 70-52, Saturday afternoon in Pacific West Conference Play at the McCabe Gymnasium.
Playing in her hometown, senior Kamalu Kamakawiwoole nabbed her second career double-double with 16 points (7-10 FG) and 11 rebounds plus four takeaways. The Utah State-transfer came out strong early with eight first-quarter points and six boards.
The Vulcans took an eight-point lead into halftime but came out the other side shooting just 1 of 6 as the Silverswords chipped away to make it a four-point differential through the halfway point of the third period.
After previously shooting 1 of 12 from beyond the arc, Hawai'i Hilo got the scoring going with three 3-pointers to extend the lead back out to double digits as the Vulcans commanded control the rest of the way to leave O'ahu with the conference win.

- Mandi Kawaha totaled a team-leading 18 points with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.
- Keirstyn Agonias shot 7 of 12 from the field to finish with 17 points and seven rebounds.
- Melanie Hiu, Kaile Cruz and Sierra Cavaletto each splashed a 3-pointer coming off the bench.
- Vulcans shot 5 of 20 (25.0 percent) from beyond the arc while the Silverswords went 2 of 11 (18.2 percent).
- Chaminade committed 16 turnovers as Hawai'i Hilo had just six while having an 8-3 advantage in steals.
- Dallas Martinez led the Silverswords with 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
What's Next
Hawai'i Hilo improved to 4-3 overall, 1-1 PacWest while Chaminade moved to an 0-6 record (0-2 PacWest).
The Vulcans will return to the Big Island to host the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for an exhibition Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. in the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
The Silverswords will head to the continent for a four-game trip in northern California taking on Academy of Art on Dec. 10.
Vulcans and Silverswords will play again Dec. 31 in Hilo.
