Silverswords Halt Vulcans in Doubleheader

HONOLULU, Hawai'i– Chaminade University halted the UH Hilo softball team at Sand Island Park in a two-game sweep.

The Silverswords are now 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the PacWest Conference, while the Vulcans dropped 4-4 and 2-2 in the PacWest.

Game One: 3 CUH, 2 UHH
The Silverswords scored first with three runs in the first inning, capitalizing on free bases. There was one Vulcan error, a walk, hit batter, two timely Chamiande hits, and a sacrifice fly that accounted for the damage done.

The Vulcans' hits were spread out until they made a fifth inning adjustment. UH Hilo found some momentum and made a run for the lead, posting two runs (3-2). Mari Kimoto doubled to score the Vulcans first run and Angel Prewitt picked up her team after with a ball poked up the middle.

UHH had two runners left on base in the fifth and the Silverswords held them the next two innings to take the first-game win.

Chaminades' Jaeda Cabunoc was successful on the mound by keeping the Vulcans off balance, limiting them to seven seperated hits.

Game Two: 5 CUH, 1 UHH
After two scoreless innings the Silverswords posted up five runs (5-0). Chaminade once again jumped on UHH's mistakes, turning a three-hit inning with one walk and Vulcan error into a five-run advancement.

The Vulcans' hits were spread out once again, until the fifth inning where they were able to string three hits together to push across one run (5-1).

CUH's Taylor Genera threw two more scoreless innings to close out the game, including three ground outs in the seventh (5-1 final score).
