IRVINE, Calif.-- The UH Hilo baseball team dropped a 6-2 loss to Concordia at Eagles Field for the third game of the four-game series.
The Eagles (12-8-1, 6-1 in the PacWest Conference) clinched the series, but the Vulcans (17-9, 6-7 PacWest) have the opportunity to win the final game that is happening now.
UHH led CUI 2-1 in the fourth inning.
Joseph Gallagher and
Lucas Sakay singled to give the Vulcans runners at first and third with no outs. Gallagher scored off a double-play ball (1-1).
Kobie Russell then got a two-out double where he scored on an error by the second baseman (2-1).
Conor Meehan was firing a great game until he got unexpectedly injured in the bottom of the fourth where the Vulcans had to make a quick pitching change.
Eamon Velarde entered the game in a hurry for the Vulcans where he allowed two hits that allowed five runs to score (6-2).
Velarde settled down for the remainder of the game, retiring six Eagles and not allowing another run to score.
Unfortunately the Vulcans were unable to figure out CUI's pitcher Mason Metcalfe after the fourth inning. Metcalfe (CUI) allowed just three hits for the rest of the game and went the minimum in three out of four remaining innings.
