IRVINE, Calif.-- The UH Hilo baseball team won the final game of the four-game series in extra innings against the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's No. 22 Concordia at Eagles Field.

The Vulcans improved 17-10 overall and 7-7 in the PacWest Conference while the Eagles dropped 12-9-1 and 6-2 in the PacWest.Â

The Vulcans scored first, taking a 1-0 lead.
Bradyn Yoshida scored
Kekaulike Kalua who led off with a double to get the inning started (1-0).Â

The Vulcans added some insurance runs in the third.
Casey Yamauchi began the frame with a single and was scored by
Joseph Gallagher's two-run homer, which was his third of the season (3-0).

CUI cut UHH's lead, scoring a run in the fourth and tied the game up in the fifth (3-3).Â

The Eagles cashed in another run in the sixth, taking the 4-3 lead with just one inning to go. UHH responded immediately, tying the game in the top of the seventh. Three consecutive singles by Yamauchi, Gallagher, and
Lucas Sakay led to UH Hilo scoring the game-tying run 4-4.Â

Two outs into the eighth inning,
Brett Komatsu began a rally with a base-hit bunt. Komatsu then stole second, putting himself in scoring position with Yamauchi up to bat. An error by the left fielder allowed Yamauchi to get on and scored the game-winning run (5-4).

Kyle Alcorn began the game for the Vulcans, throwing until the fifth inning where he was replaced by
Ty Honda and then
John Kea. Kea received the win after closing out the final four innings where he struck out four batters. Â

The Vulcans play next on Friday, Mar. 18 against Biola. Game times are set for 8am and 11am HST.
