LA MIRADA, Calif.--The UH Hilo baseball team gave an admirable effort, but fell short to Biola. The Eagles closed the third game of the four game series with a 10-6 victory over UHH at the Eagles Diamond.
Biola clinched the series 3-0, but the Vulcans have the opportunity to win the final game that is being played now.
Biola was the first team to put some runs on the board, scoring two in the fourth inning (2-0). The Vulcans cut their lead in half in the top of the fifth when Casey Yamuchi doubled to drive in Brett Komatsu (2-1), but the Eagles responded with a five-run inning creating a difficult deficit for UHH to overcome (7-1).
The Vulcans continued to fight, scoring three runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Jaryn Kanbara had a two-run homer in the sixth (7-3) and Lucus Sakay tripled in the seventh to cash in Yamauchi who began the inning with a stand-up double (7-4).
However, a three-run inning for Biola distanced themselves once again (10-4).
The Vulcans would score two more runs in the ninth before their eventual loss. Back-to-back singles by Sakay and Joseph Gallagher began the inning. Both advanced to the next base on a fielder's choice and were scored off a two-run RBI batted by Ryan Cho (10-6).
Christian DeJesus started for the Vulcans and threw four innings letting up six hits and six runs while registering five strikeouts. In relief was Jamieson Hirayama (.1 IP), Kyle Alcorn (3.1 IP), and Eamon Velarde to close (.1 IP).
