Gallagher and Yamauchi Voted All-PacWest

IRVINE, Calif.--The UH Hilo baseball team had two All-PacWest selections, Joseph Gallagher and Casey Yamauchi.

Gallagher, voted the First Team All-PacWest designated hitter, was the Vulcans clean up batter who made a big impact this season. He averaged .348 in the batter's box with 57 hits, 13 doubles, one triple, and six home runs. The 6'4 transfer slugged .549, driving in 39 RBIs. Gallagher had 17 multi-hit games and a season-high of five hits against Hawai'i Pacific where he went 5-for-6 at the plate.

Yamauchi, voted the Third Team All-PacWest shortstop, was UHH's starting shortstop and lead off batter. He had the highest batting average in the PacWest (.403) and the least amount of strikeouts (7). He got the job done for his team with 26 multi-hit games and three with four hits. His .403 batting average was composed of 75 hits, a PacWest leading 21 doubles, and had one triple. The Hilo native slugged .527, scoring 46 times and drove in 21 RBIs. Yamauchi was a part of 21 double plays and ended the season with a .941 fielding percentage.

The Vulcans finished 27-19 overall and 15-17 in the Pacific West Conference, leaving them sixth place in the league standings.
