SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Gabriel Gallardo (Anaheim Hills, Calif./Canyon HS) found the back of the net in the 70th minute for the equalizing goal as the Hawai'i Hilo men's soccer team played San Francisco State to a 1-1 draw Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference tilt at Cox Stadium.
The Gators got on the scoreboard early after a pursued Vulcans kick deep into enemy territory allowed SFSU to counter and send it up the field to Gustavo Ferrari, who took it all the way in for a score.
San Francisco State held the lead until late in the match when a chaotic sequence led to the equalizing goal.
After a few failed clear attempts by the Gators, Hawai'i Hilo's John Grover (Kea'au, Hawai'i/Waiakea HS) slid the ball over to Aidan Santos (Hilo, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Prep Academy) on the right side of the penalty area as his cross-pass dove toward the goal just out of reach of the goalkeeper for Gallardo to ricochet in.
With time winding down, SFSU positioned itself for one final attempt, but UH Hilo keeper Christian Souza (Kapolei, Hawai'i/Damien Memorial School) was able to get a handle on the bouncing long-range hit as the clock hit zeroes.
