DUPONT, Wash. – Andrew Otani finished four shots under par to claim a fourth-place finish as he led the Hawai'i Hilo men's golf team to a finish in fifth at this weekend's Saint Martin's University Bishop Invitational at The Home Course to open the 2022-23 season.
Four shots under is the best finish the senior has had as he tied a career-round-low of 69. Otani had nine birdies and finished both Friday and Saturday at the No. 4 spot on the leaderboard.
The Vulcans posted round scores of 292 and 291 (583) to finish at +7.
Hawai'i Hilo fell 14 shots behind Simon Fraser's top score of -7, but the Vulcans had at least a 20-stroke lead ahead of other Pacific West Conference teams competing with Academy of Art (299–292, +27) in 10th, Dominican (304–301, +29) at 11th, Hawai'i Pacific (308–308, +40) at 12th and Chaminade (327–307, 634) in the rear at 14th.
Noah Lau had the biggest improvement on day two going from an 81-shot first round to 74 strokes for a 155 total and +11 finish at tied for 53rd place.
Simon Fraser's Aidan Goodfellow took the crown with a 68–70 (138) outing at -6 to help lead the Red Leafs to a first-place team finish.
