Women's Soccer Leaps to No. 7 Ranking

Vulcans jump eight spots and stand atop West Region rankings.

HILO, Hawai'i – The Hawai'i Hilo women's soccer team went 2-0 last week with wins over Chaminade (2-0) and Dominican (3-1) to leap eight spots to No. 7 in the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Rankings released Tuesday.

UH Hilo was ranked at the No. 15 spot last week after having made its debut on the top 25 rankings earlier at No. 17 in the week two poll.

The Vulcans also overtook the top spot in the West Region rankings as previous-No. 1 Point Loma Nazarene went 1-1 last week with a 2-1 loss to Concordia Irvine in non-conference play.

Dallas Baptist University (6-0-1) remained atop the Division II rankings after notching a 2-0 win over then-No. 10 West Texas A&M last Saturday. The rest of the top five also stayed intact.

In addition to PLNU, other teams that lost or were leapfrogged by the Vulcans were Southern New Hampshire, College of Saint Rose, Central Oklahoma, Lee University and McKendree.

Founded in 1941 and based in Kansas City, Mo., United Soccer Coaches has grown into the world's largest soccer coaches' organization that serves members at every level of the game.

United Soccer Coaches conducts the most widely recognized national and regional soccer ranking system in the country as a service to the general public and its members. The intent of the rankings program is to stimulate greater interest in men's and women's soccer at the intercollegiate and interscholastic levels and to recognize those programs that are enjoying remarkable success on a regional and national level.

United Soccer Coaches rankings, released every Tuesday during the regular season, are an indicator of week-to-week status of qualified programs and in no way should be used as a guide or indicator of eligibility for championship selection.
