La MIRADA, Calif. – The Hawai'i Hilo women's volleyball team continued its road trip in southern California with a tough defeat by the hands of Biola in four sets Thursday night in Pacific West Conference action at the Chase Gymnasium.
Despite losing by set scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-15, the Vulcans again rallied together for a strong third-set performance to win 25-21.
Both teams battled to 11 score ties with the last coming at 21-21 as the Vulcans closed out the set with five consecutive points and back-to-back aces by Emerson Reinke (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley HS).
The opening frame also saw Hawai'i Hilo go on a five-score streak to take an early 8-6 lead, but the Eagles took off from an 11-all game as they scored eight of the last 10 points in the set.
Biola maintained control in sets No. 2 and 4 as the Vulcans weren't able to pull ahead.

- Reinke totaled 23 assists and finished with three aces to go along with three kills and four digs.
- Kamryn Childs (Syracuse, Utah/Syracuse HS) led the Vulcans with 10 kills as Samara Cruz (Escondido, Calif./Escondido HS) followed with nine. Nikki Logan (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison HS) also finished with seven kills.
- Tani Hoke (Kailua, Hawai'i/Maryknoll School) racked up 20 digs and six assists.
- Anna Aubele led the Eagles with 17 kills, contributing to 20 total points.
What's Next
Hawai'i Hilo fell to 1-12 overall, 1-6 PacWest while Biola improved to 5-3 in the conference (8-7 overall).
The Vulcans wrap up their southern California road trip Saturday, Oct. 1 at Concordia University Irvine (8-7 overall, 5-3 PacWest).
The Eagles will host Hawai'i Pacific on Oct. 1.
UH Hilo and Biola will play again Oct. 29 at the Vulcan Gymnasium.
